'PHOENIX'
" Phoenix " is a deep corner play that

allows our team to safely inbound the
ball while providing numerous scoring
opportunities. This play has provided
us with some key baskets at critical
points during games.
DIAGRAM 1: The initial set is a box
formation. This play can be run from
the deep corner with the inbounder (3)
on either the sideline or the baseline.
The play begins with 4 and 5 setting
a staggered screen for 1. After 1 cuts
off of 4's screen, 2 screens across for
4, who cuts to the ball-side block.
After 2 screens for 4, 2 clears out to
the right wing. After 5 sets the second
screen for 1, 5 breaks toward the
inbounder. This gives the inbounder
three options.
DIAGRAM 2: The first look is to 4
on the ball-side box. 4 looks to score
with a strong post move. If 4 has no
shot, they look to 5 diving to the front
of the rim.
DIAGRAM 3: If the inbounds pass
is made to 5, the options are to take
a jump shot or look to the low post,
where 4 has sealed the defender and is
posting up strong in the lane. If 5 has
no shot and can't make the post pass,
5 can reverse the ball to 2. After the
pass, 5 sprints into a ball screen.
DIAGRAM 4: After the pass and
screen, 2 and 5 play a two-man game.
5 could pick-and-roll, pick-and-pop, or
slip the ball screen.
DIAGRAM 5: If 3 can't pass to 4 on
the low block or 5 at the high post,
they can hit 1 at the top. On the pass, 5
sets a high ball screen for 1. As 1 uses
the screen, 2 slides to the right corner.
1 can drive, hit 5 on a roll, or find 2
spotting up in the corner for a jumper.
DIAGRAM 6: As this action takes
place, 4 breaks to top of the key (rolland-replace
action). If 1 passes to 4, 4
may have a shot or can make a highlow
pass to 5.
