'BUTLER'
" Butler " is a simple set play that gives all three perimeter

players an opportunity for a wide open shot. It works best
against man-to-man defenses.
DIAGRAM 1: The play starts in a box set. 1 dribbles to the
right wing. 4 downscreens for 3, who breaks to the top of
the circle. 3 might have a wide open 2- or 3-point shot.
DIAGRAM 2: If 3 does not take a shot, 4 and 5 set a
baseline staggered double screen for 2. If 2 is open coming

off of the screens, 3 reverses the ball to 2 for a possible
shot. 3 always has the option to pass to 4 or 5 as they step
into the lane for a post pass (DIAGRAM 3).
DIAGRAM 4: If 2 does not have a shot, they dribble push
at 3, who cuts to the right wing. As this action occurs, 1
comes off of a baseline staggered double screen by 4 and
5. If 1 is open, 2 passes the ball to 1 for a possible 2- or
3-point shot. If no shot is taken, the offense is in a threeout,
two-in set.
