'I' & 'C' BASELINE INBOUNDS

I call most of my baseline scoring
plays by letter. " I " begins in a stack set.
DIAGRAM 1: 'I' BLOB. My 2
always inbounds the ball; 5, 3, 4
and 1 are stacked in that order. On
the slap of the ball, 5 breaks for the
opposite block trying to get in front
of any defender. 3 breaks for the
corner. 4 pauses and, when 5 and 3
are cleared, comes down the lane. 4
is the first read on the play. 1 pops to
the top of the key as a safety in the
event everyone is covered. This play
works best against the zone.
A good adjustment on this play
DIAGRAM 1
is with the 5 man. At times, I tell 5
to pin or screen the first defender
inside, usually the center in a 2-3
zone. Assuming the low defender is
guarding the ball, 4 should have a
clear opening.
This second play, called " C, " starts
in the same stack alignment. I use the
letter " C " for corner, which is where
we look for the shot.
DIAGRAM 2: 'C' BLOB (A). On the
slap, everyone breaks the same as the
previous play. The ball is thrown to 3,
and 2 takes two steps into the paint. 3
passes up to 1 at the top of the key. 4,

who came down the lane, screens for 2.
DIAGRAM 3: 'C' BLOB (B).
After passing the ball, 3 screens
down toward the block for 2. 1
looks opposite 2, trying to fool the
defense. When 2 has squared to the
basket in the corner, 1 delivers the
ball for a shot. 3 continues to the
opposite wing, and 5 works for the
weak-side rebound. If the low-block
defender beats the screen, the ball
can be worked inside to 4 posting
up. This is good play against a zone
defense, especially if your 2 is a
good perimeter shooter.
