2023 ANNUAL REPORT
The mission of Sons of Norway is to provide quality
insurance and fi nancial products to our members, promote
and preserve the heritage and culture of Norway, and
celebrate our relationship with other Nordic countries.
DEAR FELLOW
MEMBERS,
It has been a challenging yet exciting year for Sons
of Norway, and I am honored to serve as your CEO
to shepherd the necessary initiatives to position
us for the future. While some of the adjustments we
have made to ensure fi nancial stability have not
come without compromise, they were necessary.
I appreciate that as a member you have partnered
with us while we have navigated these changes and
budget alignments.
2023 was a rebuilding year for Sons of Norway. We
began the year with a reduction of our expenses
and our team. While diffi cult, these changes helped
align us with our industry peers. Our existing team
then looked for low value tasks and items to reduce,
while also prioritizing effi ciency. It is important to
understand that over the last three years, we have
seen increases in the key responsibilities of our
operations. Our number of policies in-force is up
60%, our applications processed in 2021 and 2022
spiked tenfold compared with the early 2010s, our
producers hit an all-time high of 5,500 in 2022 and
our honored commitments to members via claims paid
has tripled, all while our operations team and costs
were reduced.
Our operations and IT team members stood fast
with their principle of being good stewards of our
resources. This required us to think diff erently about
how we approached our work. Each team member
re-evaluated his/her duties looking for opportunities
to streamline processes and apply automation.

Key examples of this include automation in each of the
three main components of carrier operations: policy
issuance, correspondence and claims. While this was
happening, we designed and implemented a forwardlooking
insurance product from a clean sheet of
paper within the year. 2023 was truly a year of doing
more with less.
I am so proud of the work our employees accomplished
in 2023 to ensure the launch of LegacySure, an important
product for our industry using cutting-edge technology.
As 2024 continues to unfold, we will work on launching
a new term and whole life product with this new technology,
leveraging the investment in this completed work.
This fall, we will be dedicating resources for our
fi rst International Board of Directors vote since the
governance change. Strong leaders are important to the
future of any organization, and I encourage you to think
about the leaders you know and ask them to consider a
seat on our International Board. Please watch for more
