Which markets will the AT120 directional drill
work in?
The AT120 All Terrain (AT) directional drill is a versatile solution for a
variety of underground construction applications. It was designed for fiber,
pipeline, oil field, gas, sewer and water projects, but also has the power
and brute force needed to move through longer bores and larger diameter
installations more efficiently.
Designed with 120,000 pounds of thrust and pullback, this machine has
the power needed to push through tough ground conditions and provides
a mid-size solution for projects typically reserved for maxi-size drills.
What is the AT120 replacing?
The AT120 is replacing Ditch Witch's AT100 and American Augers'
DD110, enabling maxi-rig operators to move down a class size
to meet jobsite constraints, without compromising jobsite productivity.
The AT120 features 15,500 foot-pounds of rotational torque -
a 50% increase over the AT100.
The AT120 is equipped with 20-foot end-to-end drill pipe on board
allowing operators to spend more time drilling and less time making and
breaking tool joints - boosting jobsite uptime.
Why wouldn't I just use a mud motor?
While mud motors can be effective in mixed hard soils, such as rock
between 5,000 to 20,000 psi, the risk of inadvertent returns with this
technology is higher in HDD applications. Today, however, technology
has advanced, and new developments have led to a decrease in the
amount of fluid sent downhole for better jobsite efficiencies.
A switch from powering the bit with drilling fluid to All Terrain (AT)
technology helps operators minimize how much fluid is pumped
downhole and reduces the risk of inadvertent returns. All Terrain (AT)
systems offer dual-pipe technology, which provides a way to use the
HDD unit's power more efficiently for driving the drill bit. With an inner
drive shaft that reaches back to the HDD unit, these motors physically
control exactly how much horsepower is sent to the bit.
Mud motors are high-fluid volume downhole tools that can produce
high drilling fluid pressures downhole and increase the possibilities of
