inadvertent returns. Inadvertent returns happen when the drilling fluid
takes the path of least resistance to the surface and does not follow
the designated path of the bore and makes its way to the surface in
unwanted areas.
By reducing operator reliance on drilling fluid, AT technology is a
more efficient option that can result in decreased jobsite waste,
minimizes cleanup and reduces environmental impact. Furthermore,
as jobsite footprints become smaller, AT technology can help reduce the
amount of equipment needed on the jobsite, increasing operator's ROI.
What are the new features on the drill and
how do these features benefit the operator?
The new revolution in All Terrain RockMaster®
housings is built on
24 years of innovation and customer feedback and culminates with the
AT120 RockMaster. It features a two-degree steering bend along with
integrated teeth and nozzles in the tailpiece that assist in cutting and
removal of spoils. A new five-point lid retention system held in with a
single caliper bolt optimizes ease of operation due to fewer equipment
parts. A patented grease-compensated bearing pack gives the operator
125 hours of inner rotation run time compared to 25 hours on its
predecessor, keeping operators more efficient and productive.
Additionally, with options of either 3.5 API reg or 4.5 API reg threads in the
bit block, operators can go up to an 8.5 " diameter bit, which enables less
cycles downhole saving time, fluid costs and tool wear.
The new rod box shuttle design is easier to operate, increasing operator
efficiencies and jobsite productivity.
The machine offers a SaverLok®
design to help operators quickly
change and replace drill tooling, ensuring operators stay up and running
on the jobsite. With updated and intuitively located compartment panels,
operators have increased access to critical components that frequently
need to be maintained, streamlining maintenance routines and the
serviceability of the drill.
How difficult will it be to train my team
to run this new drill?
The AT120 also boasts a newly designed cab to maximize operator
comfort, versatility and efficiency. The AT120 follows the same modern
drill commonality as the latest Ditch Witch family of drills, providing a
similar look and familiarity across the Ditch Witch fleet. The commonality
of the operator station started with Ditch Witch's AT40 and has been
implemented into the JT24, JT/AT32 and the JT/AT40 drills. By maintaining
commonality and consistency across fleets, operators can reduce the
amount of time spent on training and seamlessly transition from one
machine to the next, helping contractors confidently take on more
jobs. This saves operators unwarranted downtime and reduces risks
like operators damaging a drill because they used the wrong machine
