US Infrastructure Spending Surge
Caterpillar posted a 31% increase in first-quarter earnings on greater demand
for excavators, bulldozers and trucks due to federal infrastructure legislation
that has spurred construction industry spending.

Pedestrians Rescued from
Sidewalk Sinkhole in New Mexico
A sidewalk sinkhole developed on a bridge in Los Lunas, N.M.,
resulting in the rescue of two pedestrians. Authorities said
nearby culverts undermined the roadway and caused
some areas to erode.

Biden Administration Clears
National Forest Crossing
for Mountain Valley Pipeline
The Biden administration gave the go-ahead for the
long-delayed Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) pipeline
project's use of federal forest property, an essential step
in allowing it to resume construction.
Fiber Optic System from West Texas
to Central Mexico
Construction has begun on a 1,243-mile, cross-border
underground fiber optic system to connect El Paso, Texas,
and Queretaro, Mexico. It is the first cable of its kind to be
deployed in Mexico in the past 26 years.
