Underground Infrastructure - November 2023 - 24
LARGEHDD Rigs Census
When a project calls for horizontal directional drilling (HDD),
it's important to use a qualified contractor and the right equipment
for the specific needs, especially when it involves a large rig.
This annual census, compiled by Underground Infrastructure
and Pipeline & Gas Journal, serves as a valuable resource in the
selection process and, ultimately, project success.
The most common industry standard for this HDD-rig category
is pullback force of at least 100,000 pounds and, in this year's
census, reaches a maximum of 1.8 million pounds. Other relevant
statistics include maximum pipe diameter and maximum torque.
