exist), or showing a pattern of ongoing interactions
with those from other units/LOC in aforementioned
public areas.
* Sitting in unit dining areas other than their own (if
designated dining areas exist).
* Hanging out with other patients as " visitors " during
visiting times
* All instances of sexual interaction are considered
inappropriate peer to peer interaction
Relationships
Hazelden Betty Ford encourages you to develop
healthy friendships with peers from your unit and
treatment group. Learning to trust and support each
other in treatment and recovery can help you change
and sustain long-term sobriety after treatment. It is
normal to develop strong bonds and feelings with peers
as you become more open with others in your peer
group. However, it is important to not allow these new
relationships to become romantic, sexual, or exclusive.
Your personal recovery should be your main
focus during treatment. Sexual, romantic, and/or
exclusive relationships can cause serious problems
in early recovery. The powerful feelings connected to
developing a new relationship may feel good but can
quickly become destructive. Sexual, romantic, and/or
exclusive relationships during your early sobriety can
become distracting because more time is spent thinking
or even obsessing about the other person rather than
focusing on your health and recovery.
If you find yourself attracted to an exclusive, romantic
or sexual relationship with someone on campus,
please discuss concerns about these feelings with
your counselor. Exclusive, romantic, and/or sexual
relationships on campus may diminish the focus
on your health and recovery and as a result are not
permitted and may be reason for discharge.
Dress code
To enhance your comfort, peace, and focus on your
health and recovery, all patients are expected to wear
clothing that is comfortable, respectful, and appropriate
for unit and campus community activities. Guidelines
for attire include:
* Shirts, tops, pants/shorts/skirts/dresses/capris/
skorts, and shoes must be worn at all times on units
18
and in campus community areas.
* Sleepwear is to be worn only in patient units.
* Clothing and accessories may not include or represent
sexual content, violence, alcohol, drugs, politics, or
other content that may be offensive to patients, staff,
and/or visiting family members.
Wake-up times
There are designated wake-up times each day of the week.
Please consult your schedule or staff for these times.
Curfew/bed time
Be on the unit by 10 p.m. so night staff can account for
all patients in the case of an emergency. The unit is to be
quiet after this time. All televisions and computers are to
be turned off by 11 p.m.
Room guidelines
Staff will assign you to a room and a specific bed within
that room. To promote fellowship and community, most
rooms are shared with other patients. You may not switch
beds or rooms. Soft drinks, coffee, and/or food are not
allowed in your room. Use of tobacco is not permitted in
your room or on the balcony. Please do not hang clothes
and wet towels or clothing over furniture, room dividers,
from pipes, sprinklers, or the balcony. Staff members
make periodic room checks and will knock before
entering. Patients are not to go into other patients' rooms
without being invited.
Health care needs
If you have any health problems during your stay on a
unit, make an appointment to see a provider through your
assigned medical health station.
Medications
Federal and state regulations require Hazelden Betty
Ford to collect all prescription and over-the-counter
medications upon your arrival. Medications that are mood
altering, expired, improperly labeled, or in someone else's
name will be destroyed as stipulated by the Minnesota
Department of Health. If you require medication while at
Hazelden Betty Ford, one of our physicians will prescribe
it and a trained Hazelden Betty Ford staff member will
dispense the medication to you. Any properly labeled
medications collected upon admission will be returned to
you upon discharge.
