Maple Grove/Chaska Patient Handbook 2023 - 17
Sexual, romantic, and/or exclusive relationships can
cause serious problems in early recovery. The powerful
feelings connected to developing a new relationship
may feel good but can quickly become destructive.
Sexual, romantic, and/or exclusive relationships during
your early sobriety can become distracting because
more time is spent on thinking or even obsessing about
the other person than on your health and recovery.
If you find yourself wanting an exclusive romantic or
sexual relationship with someone on campus, please
discuss these feelings with your counselor or therapist.
Exclusive, romantic, and/or sexual relationships on
campus may diminish the focus on your health and
recovery.
Dress code
To enhance your comfort, peace, and focus on your
health and recovery, all patients are expected and
highly encouraged to wear clothing that is comfortable,
respectful, and appropriate for campus community
activities. Guidelines for attire include:
* Shirts; tops; pants, shorts, skirts, dresses, capris, or
skorts; and shoes.
* Shirts and tops must be at least waist length.
* Clothing and accessories may not include or
represent sexual content, violence, alcohol, drugs,
politics, or other inappropriate content that may be
offensive to patients, staff, and/or visiting family
members.
Health care needs
If you have any health problems while on campus,
notify your clinical team and make an appointment
with a local health care provider.
Mood-altering substances
All patients have the right to an environment free
of mood-altering substances while in treatment. If
alcohol or other drugs are on campus, your recovery
and personal safety are at risk. We expect you to
immediately notify staff if you have reason to believe
alcohol or other drugs are on campus. Do not endanger
the recovery of your peers by bringing alcohol or other
drugs to campus. Breaking this guideline will result in
discharge from all Hazelden Betty Ford services at all
locations.

Transfer or Discharge
The safety of patients and staff at Hazelden Betty Ford
is extremely important. Patients may be transferred
or discharged from Hazelden Betty Ford at any time
if they are a threat to themselves or others. In some
circumstances, a behavior contract and/or conflict
resolution may take place. Hazelden Betty Ford may
also take legal action if illegal behaviors occur on our
property. The most common reasons for early discharge
are:
* Transfer based on clinical needs. Your counselor may
recommend a transfer to another Hazelden Betty
Ford location or an outside treatment provider if
Hazelden Betty Ford in Chaska or Maple Grove can't
meet your clinical needs.
* Stealing. This includes stealing from peers, staff, or
Hazelden Betty Ford.
* Using, possessing, or supplying mood-altering
substances. You may be asked to complete a urine
analysis if use is suspected. Confirmed use may
result in discharge from Hazelden Betty Ford in
Chaska or Maple Grove.
* Disrespect toward staff members or peers, including
making derogatory remarks, jokes, or comments
about race, ethnic background, religious affiliation,
sexual orientation, or gender.
* Violence. This includes but is not limited to hitting,
slapping, kicking, making verbal threats, having
explosive outbursts, and damaging property.
* Sexual behavior. Physical contact, sexual innuendo,
or any forms of sexual harassment of any kind with
another patient or staff member while participating
in Hazelden Betty Ford's continuum of care is not
allowed. Mutually respectful, peer-to-peer hugging is
not considered sexual behavior.
* Developing a pattern of consistently not
meeting treatment expectations. This includes
recommendations that the medical or mental health
teams think are necessary for your health, such as
taking prescribed medication and meeting with
mental health or medical professionals.
Those who are discharged from Hazelden Betty Ford
and wish to be readmitted need to follow the regular
admission process. In some cases readmission may
not be authorized. If you have questions, please do not
hesitate to ask your counselor.
