Changing Your Life
Our program goals and expectations are designed to ensure
that you and other patients here have the best opportunity
to learn, change and heal-one day at a time.
Treatment Goals
You have personal goals for what you want to
accomplish in treatment. The following basic goals are
assigned to all patients:
* Take a realistic look at addiction.
* Begin to learn and practice the principles of AA or NA.
* Develop personal responsibility by asking for help.
* Increase awareness of the need for a structured and
balanced life.
* Improve relationships through respect for yourself
and others.
* Experience spiritual growth (quality of relationship
with self, others and a Higher Power).
* Learn and practice problem-solving skills.
* Seek and experience enjoyment in sobriety.
You will practice recovery in a real-world setting. You
may have experiences with a variety of staff members
while you are here, as we work as a team to help you
recognize the need to make specific changes in your life
and give you the tools to make them.
Many patients participate in various levels of care,
including detox, residential, day treatment, outpatient
and continuing care on their recovery journey. While
you may work with various staff members at different
levels of care, please know your treatment goals will
remain focused on recovery.

Because it is important to begin to take personal
responsibility for your behaviors, the following
" I Statement " guidelines are designed to ensure your
successful completion of the program and help promote
personal and peer community health, safety and
recovery.
* I will be honest, open and willing to try new recovery
behavior.

* I will read this handbook and use it as a reference
throughout my stay, and I will ask for clarification
about anything that I do not understand.
* I will follow my individual treatment plan and work
on developing positive relationships with my peers
and Hazelden Betty Ford staff.
* I will respect the confidentiality of my peers,
Hazelden Betty Ford alumni and other members of
Twelve Step support groups who visit. I will always
remember that who I see here, what I hear here, I will
let it stay here.
* Please be aware that disclosing information about
your peers to anyone outside of Naples staff can be
ground for dismissal from the program.
* I will participate in mental health services as
recommended by staff.
* I will follow my health care professional's
recommendations for self-care and medication. To
avoid taking mood-altering medication, I will consult
with staff before taking any prescribed medications.
* I will avoid over-reliance on or exclusive
relationships with any one or two peers, as this will
deny me the guidance, friendship and support of
others.
* I will attend AA or NA meetings as scheduled and/or
recommended by staff.
* I will request a pass for any off-site activity if I live
on-site.
* I will be responsible for my own schedule, which
includes planning ahead to make sure I attend all
groups and appointments.
* I will follow the Hazelden Betty Ford policy on
nicotine use on Hazelden Betty Ford property.
* I will arrange a progress review with my counselor at
least weekly.
* I will follow my ongoing continuing care
recommendations, including participation in ongoing
professional appointments, Twelve Step groups and
the MORE individualized program of recovery.
