Community meeting
Unit staff meets with all patients every week on a
designated day to communicate and discuss patient and
staff concerns involving the unit. Program Managers
may schedule special Community Meetings, if needed.
Involvement
We ask that you focus your relationships with peers
who are on your unit only. For this reason, it is
important for you to get to know your group members.
Selective relationships with other patients are
discouraged and may result in discharge.
Sign-out book
The sign-out book is located on your unit. It is a place
for you to leave information for staff and other patients
about where you are. If you leave your unit or the
building, please sign out with your full name and exact
destination (for example: walk around property, softball
field, doctor's office, parent pass) and then sign back in
when you return. We appreciate your cooperation.
Campus boundaries
The boundaries for the Hazelden Betty Ford grounds
are shown on a map on the bulletin board near the unit.
If you have any questions, please ask the staff or your
buddy. Please treat all wildlife on the grounds with
respect.
Property damage
Any property damage or repair that needs to be
addressed should be brought to the attention of the tech
on duty. You are responsible for paying for any damage
you do to Hazelden Betty Ford property.
Infection control
You are encouraged to prevent infections of many
types from spreading among you and your peers by not
sharing cups, pop cans, towels, combs, cosmetics and
clothing. Please wear slippers in your room if you do
not have your shoes on. Wash the bathtub, using the
solution provided in the bathroom, after using the tub
for showers, baths or warm soaks. Be sure to wash your
hands before meals and after using the bathroom.
In the interest of preventing the spread of HIV, hepatitis
and other diseases transmitted through body fluids,
please do not share any of the following with other
people:
* Razors
* Toothbrushes
* Earrings
* Beverages and food items
* Articles of clothing
Also, you may not pierce your ears or other body parts
while at Hazelden Betty Ford or get tattoos of any kind;
this is considered an injury requiring medical attention.
Further, any kind of sexual contact is against the rules
and grounds for immediate discharge.
Passes
Limited passes to leave campus may be appropriate with
parents or guardians when they are imperative to your
treatment process. When leaving and returning from a
pass, please inform the technician on duty and use the
sign-out book.
Visiting
Visiting hours are on Sundays from 10-11 a.m. for Grace
Hall, 1-2 p.m. for Pioneer Hall, and 3-4 p.m. for Legacy
Hall for patients who have been in treatment at least a
week. Additional visiting times, including during the
evening hours, are able to be accommodated. Please
make this request through your counselor. Patients may
also receive visits seven days per week from a personal
physician, religious advisor, county case worker, parole
or probation officer, or attorney at reasonable times to
be arranged with the assistance of staff. You have the
right at all times to refuse any visitor within federal
regulations based on the Guidelines of Confidentiality.
With the exception of immediate family, your counselor
must approve all visitors, including alumni. Visitors are
not permitted in any patient areas, including units and/
or rooms. Patients are not to sit or ride in cars unless on a
family pass.
