A 59-year-old male patient came to our office
with the chief complaint of bi-lateral maxillary
posterior pain. An examination was conducted,
and images taken, including two periapical
intraoral x-rays of the right (Figure #1) and
left (Figure #2) maxillary posterior region and
a panoramic x-ray (Figure #3). The x-rays
indicated moderate posterior bone loss with
generalized recession.
When the patient returned for a follow-up
appointment, I observed advancing bone loss
in both the maxillary right and left posterior
quadrants with up to 7mm periodontal pockets.
In a consultation with this patient, I discussed a
plan of endodontic and periodontal treatment
of the teeth involved and referred him to an
endodontist and periodontist. Re-examination
a few months later revealed bone loss around
tooth #15 with a guarded prognosis
