Our February issue focuses on safety, and somewhere in the distance I can hear groans
from the workforce. Safety is not a universally exciting topic but it's a crucial one.
Everyone involved in construction knows the importance of safety, yet the industry
remains one of the most dangerous in the world. Even the most skilled professionals who
know the rules and regulations of a safe worksite can be guilty of cutting corners for the
sake of speed and expedience, and that's when the job gets dangerous. Safety requires
practice, repetition, and reinforcement by routine reminders and updated procedures.
Technology can assist with a safe job site, but nothing can protect the workforce better
than individual diligence, proper training, and avoiding complacency.
This issue of MCS covers topics of safety related to technology, training, equipment,
and innovation-and we look at how tragedy can strike when safe procedures
are ignored.
