156. Acupuncture, Yoga, and Contingency
Management: Nourishing
Clients and Their Providers
MARCIA TANUR, MD
Track: Core Clinical
LEVEL OF INSTRUCTION: ADVANCED
It takes a village and many types of tools to initiate and
sustain recovery from alcohol, nicotine, and stimulants.
Many clients with alcohol use disorder (AUD) or
with tobacco use disorder (TUD) have benefited from
evidence-based medications covered by American
medical insurance. Our clients who are homeless with
Methamphetamine/ Stimulant Use Disorder (MUD)
have likewise received evidence-based care in the
form of rent subsidies for successful completion of
different stages of contingency management (CM).
As 2022 brought the unpredictable waxing and
waning of COVID, our program strengthened two,
complementary therapies: acupressure and yoga.
This bundle package for recovery and wellness could
be taught in live and telehealth groups. We modified
these self-empowering skills for introduction or
enhancement while in quarantine for management
of pain and addiction. Review of the integrative
medicine literature will highlight add-on and rarely
mono-therapies for sustaining recovery, mitigating
discomfort, and preventing relapse. We plan to
combine yoga or acupressure participation with CM
incentives and programs. By Spring 2022, we hope
most of our addiction and primary care providers will
become familiar and ready to support elementary
acupressure and yoga.

157. Choosing a Rational
Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder
ALAN WARTENBERG, MD, DFASAM,
FACP
Track: MAT
LEVEL OF INSTRUCTION: INTERMEDIATE
Currently, in the majority of treatment programs
in the US, treatment decisions about patients with
opioid use disorder (OUD) are frequently made
according to the ideological position of the assessing
clinician, as well as the specific institution. This presentation
will attempt to describe the evidence with
which clinicians can make more rational decisions
between abstinence-based and medication-involved
modalities. In addition, it is possible for programs
to utilize multiple modalities in the same patient
population.
