Michael John Restrepo
Michael John Restrepo, 58, passed away on October 15, 2018. Mr. Restrepo
graduated from Wyomissing Area High School in 1977, Tufts University in 1981
and Georgetown Law School in 1986. Mickey practiced law for decades and
more recently with his own firm, Restrepo Law. He was also a candidate for
Berks County Common Pleas Judge in 1997; while unsuccessful, he impressed
many with his commitment to truth, justice and family. In addition to practicing
law, Mr. Restrepo also served as an adjunct professor at Albright College, served
on many local boards and foundations, and wrote a novel, Consensual Crime.
The Berks Barrister featured Mickey and his book in its Fall 2013 issue. His other
interests included a love of swimming, surfing, wind surfing, snowboarding,
basketball and golf. When not playing a sport, he enjoyed cheering on his
daughters in tennis and volleyball and Philly sports teams with passion and
pride. Most of all, his family and his love of family were his greatest legacy.
Mickey is survived by his wife, Sharon, his daughters, Corinne, Hilary and
Shannon, and his granddaughter, Julia. In The Barrister article, he explained
how someone with the first name Michael came to have the nickname Mickey.
"With my older siblings, it was Bobby, Ronny, Billy, Kathy and Jimmy. My
mother is German-Irish, and Mikey was not going to cut it. An Irish background
demanded that it be Mickey." As Sharon would point out, "As in Mickey Mantle,
not Mickey Mouse."
