An Afternoon with

Supreme Court Justice's electrifying
visit to Buffalo reconnected me with
law school classmates and gave us all
a deeper appreciation of her legacy

Ruth Bader Ginsburg's
visit to the " City of Good
Neighbors, " as Buffalo, New York
is referred to by natives, she made
a promise to a friend.
As many of you know, Justice
Ginsburg was a proud alumna of
Cornell University, where she met her husband and love of her
life, Martin, as well as friends she would stay in touch with for her
entire life.
One of those dear friends was Wayne Wisbaum, an attorney
and prominent member of the Buffalo legal community. Justice
Ginsburg had promised her long-time friend that she would visit
Buffalo someday. However, that day always seemed to be some
unspecified date in the future.
Finally, in July of 2018, she made arrangements to make good
on her promise. Ginsburg scheduled a visit to the University of

2019.
Unfortunately, Wisbaum passed
away before Justice Ginsburg's visit.

Justice Ginsburg's plans.
Despite being hospitalized the
week prior due to complications
arising from her battle with cancer,
Justice Ginsburg arrived, as promised, in Buffalo.
I too am an alumna of Cornell University, and a long-time
admirer of Justice Ginsburg, who I admit is a heroine of mine.
After all, she forged a path for many of us by attending
law school as a young wife and mother, going on to become a
champion of civil rights, litigating so many important cases, while
at the same time demonstrating that women deserved the same
opportunities as men - not only across the legal profession, but
across the entirety of American society.
