e had another successful Berks County Medical Society
Alliance calendar year. It's hard to believe it is over
and that we are already planning the 2019-2020 year
programs! I would like to thank last year's board and especially last
year's president Amanda Abboud for a marvelous year. Programming
included a presentation on mindfulness through drawing with a
Zentagle demonstration by member Mary Rose Feldman. Also, we
explored the culinary arts at Belly Kitchen and Drinkery. And finally,
at our most recent meeting, we had a round table discussion on
communication with the iGeneration. On May 2, 2019 we held our
Installation Luncheon at Judy's on Cherry in Reading. Thank you to
our Director, Kara DeJohn, for planning and organizing the luncheon
along with installing our new board. I am excited to introduce the
newly installed board members:

On March 27, 2019, the Medical Alliance hosted its annual Health
Project entitled Heads Up! Youth Concussion Recovery Update:
Returning Kids to School, Sports, and Other Activities. Speakers
included Dr. Rochelle Haas, physiatrist at Nemours A.I. duPont
Hospital for Children, and Dr. Paul Maar, Sports Medicine specialist
at Commonwealth Orthopedic Associates. The speakers shared their
expertise on youth concussions and how to safely and effectively return
our children to daily activities. It was another fabulous program and
I would like to thank Amanda Abboud for chairing the committee
which included Kara DeJohn, Lisa Geyer, Lisa Banco, Jody Menon,
and Kathyrn Marr. This program would not have been successful
without this hard-working committee.

This year we honored 5 Berks County Physicians and Practices
on April 24th at our Doctor's Grove Ceremony. It was a beautiful
day to celebrate these wonderful physicians. Thank you to Dee
Dee Burke for planning and organizing such a special event.
Thank you to everyone who generously contributed to our
annual holiday card fundraiser in 2018. This spring we were
able to make donations to the following local organizations:
Aaron's Acres to provide summer camp scholarships for kids
with disabilities; Berks Community Health Center to furnish 1
primary care exam room; Co-County Wellness Services for their
Berks Teens Matter program and HIV testing and counseling;
Breast Cancer Support Services for their Patient Assistance
Fund; Community Prevention Partnership for their Safe Sleep
Coalition; the Greater Berks Food Bank Produce 4 Kids program;
Western Berks Free Medical Clinic for free medical care for the
uninsured. A special thank you to Jill Haas for her dedication to
our Philanthropy program.
I am excited for another wonderful year with the Medical
Alliance. This coming year we are planning to spotlight
philanthropy. We hope our members can join us as we learn a
little more about some of the organizations we support through
our holiday card fundraiser. If you or someone you know might
