The grand opening celebration occurred on April 29, 1995. The current historical
society is 56,000 square feet with a dramatic 250-seat auditorium. The CCHC has
expanded considerably under the great leadership of President Conor Hepp and
Chairman of the Board of Trustees Jim Sargent (see below). The organization is
continuing old traditions but also moving into the 21st century.
Conor Hepp,
our President
Conor has
many ties with
Chester County.
A Marshallton
resident who
earned his
bachelor's
degree in
History from
West Chester University and a master's
degree in business administration and
entrepreneurship from Temple University.
Prior to joining the history center he served
as director of visitor experience at the world
famous Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia,
where he directed strategic planning and
operations.
In that role he helped design an education
program funded by a $1.5 million grant that
served underprivileged students. His career
also included operations management at
the Franklin Institute.
Conor is young, dynamic, and passionate
with knowledge, experience, and
imagination to take the history center
forward in these difficult times. For me, his
bounding energy is infectious which makes
us all feel nothing is impossible.
achievements.
A former assistant attorney general of New
Hampshire under former US Supreme Court
Justice David Souter and former law clerk to
Chief Judge Collins Seitz.
He is currently co-chairman of Lamb
McErlane's PC appellate advocacy group
and litigation department.
His record as a lawyer is exemplary and he
has been named Super Lawyer since 2005.
Beyond that his interest in history and
preservation of our heritage has prompted
him to be involved in the history center and
we are all benefitting. James has been a role
model and someone I look up to.

school of law. It will
take a book to write
all his accolades and
Chester County has many interesting stories that reach far around the world and
to our next door neighbors. Visit the History Center and learn more about the people,
places, and events that influenced our nation. Here are some of the things that have been
achieved in spite of the pandemic:
* National History Day. NHD is a national program and CCHC oversees it for
Chester and Delaware counties.
* By this summer we will complete our newest addition to our galleries, Visible
Storage. This new gallery will allow us to display more of our collection that would
otherwise be hidden from public view.
* On May 1st we hosted our Spring Festival with outdoor vendors and programming,
which was well attended.
* October we will be having our 3rd annual Halloween Ball.
* December of this year we will have our Home for the Holidays market.
* Throughout the pandemic we have continued our digital program and lectures.
* Thematic Walking tours (such as Dark History, Sweets, and Sick in the City) are
being offered throughout the year.
* " Becoming Chester County " is the newest exhibit which was recently opened earlier
this year. It covers the second-floor galleries of both museum buildings with important
stories about the battles, accomplishments, growth, and essential challenges that are at
the heart of Chester County's and America's stories.

The society is bridging cultures between
those who came many generations ago
with those who have arrived more recently
from far flung areas like India, Pakistan,
China, Eastern Europe, and the Middle
East to this great country we live in.
One needs to remember that it is our
society, regardless of where one is from,
and we are very interested in preserving
heritage, regardless of race, sex, religion,
or ethnicity. CCHC's mission is guided by
the tenets of relevance and sustainability
and responsibility, to continue with the
collections and exhibitions, but also the
educational programs and outreach.
