he three quotes above describe Chester County History
Center's (CCHC) philosophy. The Great Nelson Mandela
was likely talking about South Africa, but he could be
talking about any democratic country of the world and postCovid
it does seem like we need to rebuild our great nation. I
often hear that art and history does not put food on our tables,
and that would be the greatest of follies. If you go back and look
at history from Egypt's Pharaohs to Spanish Moore's to European
Renaissance the cultures that progressed and thrived always gave
importance to their art, culture, and heritage.
Six years ago, I wrote a brief history of Chester County
Historical Society (CCHS) which is now more aptly named
Chester County History Center (CCHC). The name may have
changed but our mandate and purpose remains the same, which
is to preserve our history and heritage. Making sure the great
Native Americans that lived here before immigrants came are
remembered as are those that came later.
Their hopes, their dreams and their achievements are
preserved and catalogued for posterity.
Chester County has a great and rich history. Not only was this
area involved in our war of independence, some great battles were
fought here. However, even more important is our cultural and
