What now?
Anyone in health care should be alert for possible hepatitis
A infection among at-risk individuals with characteristic signs
and symptoms, and perform laboratory testing to confirm
the diagnosis. If possible, consider holding serum for further
studies (such as confirmation of antibody test, HAV RNA test,
genotyping, and sequencing) which might aid public health
officials in identifying and controlling an outbreak. Make
sure cases are reported to Chester County Health Department
(CCHD) or your local health department. CCHD will be
partnering with groups in Chester County to offer vaccination
to priority groups, but be sure to seek out at-risk patients in your
practice and encourage vaccination. For more information, call
