inally! At long last, Camp Hill Borough has
its first pub since Warren G. Harding was
President at the beginning of Prohibition.
And it's helped to make this picturesque
block on Market Street hop with activity.
Watershed Pub serves diners in a stately building
dating back to the early 1800's, just down
the block from the Olde Camp Hill Borough
Hall. Renovated in 2018 to add an expansive
outdoor porch, its relaxed atmosphere and
well-made fare are most welcome in town. Along
with an extensive beer and wine list from their
sister eatery Millworks Brewery in midtown
Harrisburg, they feature a Chesapeake-inspired
menu, via Central PA produce and Chesapeake
Basin/local fishery seafood. Not to mention an
original cocktail collection, and the first Po'boys
(chicken, clam, day boat scallops or catfish) I've
seen around here in a while.
Apps at our table were a perfectly textured
mid-Atlantic fish Ceviche, attractively topped
with pickled red onion and shaved celery, and
Crab Imperial Fries with a house bay spiced
Maryland crab dip. Nice looking oyster, clam
and mussel small plates can be had as well.
Salads are hearty enough to make a meal
of. The most popular, per our server, Alexsis, is
the Wood Grilled Caesar Salad, mildly charred
and topped with whole wheat brioche croutons
and shaved local Romano. Another top choice
is the Wood Grilled Apple and Radicchio Salad,
with toasted walnuts and Camelot Valley feta.
We tried out the big selling Long Island Swordfish
Loin, wood-grilled and served on smooth
cheddar grits, and surrounded by wilted kale,
tomatoes, and Kennett Square mushrooms. Wild
Mushroom Ravioli had a basil undertone, cooled
by a house-made vegan ricotta and a balsamic
reduction. The Watershed Cheeseburger was
both smoky and juicy and could easily feed
two. Other selections on Watershed's seasonal
menu included Moroccan Spiced Monkfish and
Koji Aged Beef Short Rib.
Too full to each get our own desserts, we split
a mini-cast iron pan of Hot Spiced Donuts,
served with chocolate, caramel and lemon curd
dipping sauces. Rotating Fox Meadow Sustainable
Ice Cream choices include Madagascar Vanilla,
Dragon Fruit, Birthday Cake, Grasshopper Mint,
and Chocolate Peanut Butter Bliss.
For those few of you who were around during
the Roaring Twenties, I'm sure you'll agree that
it was worth the wait.
