lassic medical education philosophy
was "See one, do one, teach one."
An idealized interpretation of that
statement describes a system where
visual, kinesthetic, and auditory experiences collaborate to produce skillfulness.
However, time has revealed significant
faults in that instruction model. Most
notably because the "one" was centered
around the procedure rather than where
it belonged, centered on the patient. As
a second-year medical student at Penn
State College of Medicine in Hershey, I
have been experiencing firsthand a reinterpretation of medical education. This
educational model is now a multimodal
experience with a four-pillar focus. They are
"Biomedical Sciences," "Clinical Sciences,"
"Health Humanities," and "Health Systems
Sciences." My goal is to highlight the way
