T
he list of sad experiences in our lives this past year is
long. While not anywhere nearly as serious as unemployment
and political fighting, we also lost the pleasure of going
out to eat. Long after plans to try out the newly opened
Revelry last spring were curtailed, it was worth the wait to join a
few friends and enjoy a great meal.
Steak selections are the stars of the menu, and include a Wagyu
Ribeye, a certified Angus New York Strip, a Duroc Pork Porterhouse,
double-cut bone-in Australian Lamb Chops, and a 34-ounce
Tomahawk Rib Chop for two. All steaks come with a choice of
sauces, including a bourbon demi-glace and a soy ginger glaze. My
filet mignon was charred on the outside and buttery inside.
Located upstairs from the lobby at the Hershey Lodge, it
replaced the long-standing Forebay. This new prime steak and
seafood eatery ranks up there with 1700 and The Final Cut for a
great dining splurge. Renovated with dark wood and burgundy
leather booths, the dining area and bar are adjoined by a rooftop
patio, which will offer scenic views of the rolling hills of Hershey
as the weather warms and life slides back to normal. Valet parking
is complimentary for diners. Sous-chef Katie Eurich comes to
the Hershey Entertainment and Resorts family with impressive
credentials, training in New York under famed chefs Daniel Boulud
and Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
Other entrees enjoyed at our table included jumbo lump crab
cakes, seared scallops with a cauliflower puree and golden raisin
red pepper chutney, and a huge chophouse burger with blue cheese,
crispy onions, and thick-cut bacon.
Sides were anything but ordinary, including Boursin mashed
potatoes, roasted forest mushrooms, horseradish mac and cheese,
and truffle parmesan fries.
When in Hershey, ya gotta have chocolate in your desserts with
a selection of chocolate martinis. Choices include a banana tart
with salted caramel sauce topped with a crumbled Take 5 candy
bar, a molten Reese's peanut butter chocolate cake, and a white
chocolate cinnamon crème brûlée.
Following well-crafted cocktails and a warm, sourdough bread
basket, we enjoyed reasonably portioned appetizers (I remain
