Technology fortunately provides us many
screening modalities available to assist us on
our road to longevity and maintenance of
health. After all, with the CDC estimating
life expectancy to be 78.8 years, steps are
needed to help make those years as disease-free as possible. It likely comes as no
surprise that heart disease and cancer still
lead the way as the main causes of mortality
(CDC.gov).
So why visit your primary care physician
(PCP)? To name a few, your PCP can assist
you with discussions regarding age-appropriate screening, specialty referrals, tips for
a healthier lifestyle, mental health concerns,
and end of life decision planning. Tests
such as colonoscopies, Pap smears, and
mammograms should be commonplace,
as well as talks regarding immunizations
and family health history. Moreover, with

the CDC estimating 35.4% of U.S. adults
are faced with obesity and 17% of children
and adolescents, body mass index screening
and blood pressure monitoring should be
carried out routinely as well.
