THE HONORABLE
FRANCIS J. CATANIA MEMORIAL

T

he Honorable Francis J. Catania was appointed to the
Delaware County Bench in 1963 and went on to serve as
a distinguished jurist for the next 27 years. For 14 of the
years, he presided as President Judge of the Court of Common
Pleas. Judge Catania is remembered for his commitment to the
Delaware County Bench and Bar, his dedication to the ideals of
the legal profession, and his tireless work to support the local
justice system.

The Magisterial District Court is the first level of judicial
authority in Pennsylvania. There are thirty Magisterial District
Courts located in offices throughout Delaware County. An
elected Magisterial District Judge presides over each of the
individual Magisterial District Courts. They are elected to serve
in their districts for six-year terms.

Named in his honor,
the Honorable Francis
J. Catania Memorial
Award is presented to an
individual who embodies the ideals of Judge Catania and has
made significant contributions to the administration of justice in
Delaware County.

The Donald S. Guthrie
Award posthumously
names the Honorable
Laurence J. McKeon Sr.
as the 2019 recipient of the
DONALD S. GUTHRIE
AWARD. The Award was
presented by the Honorable Kelly A. Micozzie-Aguirre and
the Honorable Jack D. Lippart to the Guthrie Family.
Named for Donald S. Guthrie, the first Administrator of the
Delaware County District Courts, this award is presented to an
individual who is not currently sitting as a Magisterial District
Judge but who has supported the Magisterial District Judges'
Association and has contributed to the operation of the criminal
justice system. The recipient should exemplify the commitment
to justice and dedication to the operation of the minor judiciary
embodied by Donald S. Guthrie.
