" We Can Do It! " ... So, We Did!

Winter 2018
" We Can Do It! " is an American
wartime propaganda poster produced
by J. Howard Miller in 1943
for Westinghouse Electric as an
inspirational image to boost worker
morale. Feminists and others have
seized upon the uplifting attitude and
apparent message to remake the image
into many different forms.
The image made the cover of the
Smithsonian magazine, 1994; it was fashioned into a US firstclass
mail stamp; 1999; and it was incorporated in 2008 into
campaign materials for several American politicians. The image
was reworked in 2010 by an artist to celebrate the first woman
becoming prime minister of Australia; and again in 2018, when
it graced the cover of the Delco re:View featuring trailblazer

Celebrating Women's History Month, March 2021
Theme 2021: " Valiant Women of the Vote:
Refusing to be Silenced "
The 2020 pandemic curtailed many in-person celebrations
and events worldwide and the Women's Suffrage Centennial
was amongst one of the historic events. The National Women's
History Alliance believed that the 100th anniversary of the 19th
amendment was not something to be lightly celebrated, and
decided to extend the annual 2020 theme 'Valiant Women of the
Vote: Refusing to be Silenced' into 2021. Today, multicultural
suffragists and voting rights activists continue to fight the good
fight for women everywhere.
