COURAGE, TRADITION AND FAMILY
PROGRESS THROUGH SONG,
STORY & HISTORY
February 2021. The Community Outreach Committee of the
Delaware County Bar Association held its 12th virtual event in
celebration of Black History Month.
Black History Month, founded by noted historian Carter G.
Woodson and other prominent African Americans, originated
in February 1926. The month of February was selected in
deference to Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln who
were both born in that month. Black History Month continues
as an annual celebration of the achievements by African
Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S.
history.
Our Distinguished Panel ...
* The Honorable Nathaniel C. Nichols, as Moderator.
The Foundation for Delaware County, a public charity
founded in 2016 and the largest philanthropy serving
Delaware County, elected the Honorable Nathaniel C.
Nichols to its Board of Directors in 2019.
The Honorable Nathaniel C. Nichols, as Moderator,
in his signature bow tie, " the embodiment of propriety. "
" COURAGE, TRADITION AND FAMILY ...
PROGRESS THROUGH SONG, STORY & HISTORY "
The Celebration provided a number of " aha! " moments that
made each of us further appreciate the background and traditions
of African Americans and the benefits bestowed on all people by
our nation's commitment to recognition of every person's ability
to contribute to the common good without regard to superficial
differences. So, implicitly, the program not only celebrated
the Black/African American history and heritage; it fetes our
commonality and frailties that have marked our progress in
achieving fairness, equality and justice for all.
In celebration of Black History Month, through song and
story, we reflect upon the importance of from where we came,
with the understanding that heritage, roots and ancestry is an
important part of carving out our future together.
