Broader Action X2 ... And It is More
Than a Change in Name!
New Name, Broader Action, February 2021:
elaware County officials
announced the reformation of the
county's Heroin Task Force to be
a more inclusive substance abuse group
... District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer
and Sandra Garrison, the Director of the
County's Department of Human Services,
said the county's Heroin Task Force
has been reshaped to be the Delaware
County Substance Abuse & Recovery
Task Force.

In making their announcement,
Stollsteimer and Garrison noted that while
the Heroin Task Force had played a vitally
important role in the early years of the
opioid epidemic, much had been learned
about the issue of substance abuse and
recovery since 2012.
" By renaming and reorganizing
the Heroin Task Force, we hope to
demonstrate the County's recognition
that the problem of substance abuse is
not primarily a law enforcement problem
- it is a human problem, with many
dimensions, " Stollsteimer said.
The work of the Task Force will be
accomplished primarily through the
following subcommittees: Data Collection
and Analysis, Public Education and
Events, Criminal Justice, Human Services,
and Overdose Prevention.

and the County's law
enforcement partners
that to effectively
meet the needs of our
citizens, we must learn
to think holistically,

and work across organizational lines.
As a prime example of this type of
collaboration, the law enforcement
community is looking forward to the
launch of the Law Enforcement Treatment
Initiative, which will divert individuals
suffering from a substance abuse problem
to treatment providers rather than
prosecution. "
New Name, Broader Action, Effective
July 21, 2021: DCWAR will become
" Delaware County Victim Assistance
Center "
Delaware county women against
rape (DCWAR) is a private non-profit
agency founded in 1974. DCWAR's
Vision: To be a model victims' services
organization, striving for excellence in
all efforts, collaborating to inclusively
serve the community to be free of sexual
assault and other victimization, through
education, social justice, healing and
empowerment.
Unprecedented
innovation,
community solidarity,
and resilience in
the face of the
unthinkable.
While DCWAR
did not stop offering
services, it had to
" rethink " its major fundraisers. The 2020
event, Denim & Diamonds, planned for
April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month,
and the kick off of National Crime
Victims Week, was rescheduled due to the
Pandemic.
So, DCWAR got creative and set up a
virtual auction event with a livestreaming
aspect. With much success, the auction
raised proceeds to benefit the cause and
the bidding site reached a number of
new donors thereby increasing funding
and raising awareness about DCWAR's
mission.

The coronavirus has had a major
impact on countless industries, lives, and
governments, but it did not stop violence
and crimes from occurring and it did not
stop the mission of DCWAR which serves
approximately 2,500 people annually, just
in Delaware County.
April 2021. DelcoWAR held its 9th
Annual Race for Victims' Rights 5K,
virtually! All proceeds collected support
victim services of Delaware County
Women Against Rape (DCWAR) & Crime
Victims Services. Participants were able
to show their spirit by walking or running
their 5K anywhere with this virtual event!
Photos, selfies, and results were submitted
through the innovative Racejoy App
available for Apple and Android devices.
