What's Happening
In Hamburg?

D
owntown Hamburg is ready to get
reeling again. After more than a year
of no events, the downtown is gearing
up to once again host events and festivals, and
the community is ready! After the decision
was made in May to hold our annual Taste
of Hamburg-er Festival on Sept. 4, our first
Facebook post announcing the event reached
over 100,000 people in three days and amassed
more than 1,000 shares.
Now in its 18th year, The Taste of Hamburger
Festival is a highly anticipated event that
attracts thousands to the town. What started
as a three-block festival to celebrate the 100th
anniversary of the burger has turned into an
eight-block event featuring four stages of nonstop
entertainment, amateur and professional
burger eating competitions, beer and wine
gardens, children's activities, and of course,
LOTS of burgers. Creativity and unique combinations
are the norm, as vendors compete for
the Best Burger award and bragging rights for
the year. You will also find a variety of other
tasty foods that pair well with burgers including
fries, funnel cakes, roasted corn, ice cream and
other desserts, just to name a few.
While strolling the streets, smelling the
delicious aroma, and deciding which burger
you want to try, you can enjoy the handmade
creations on display and for sale from numerous
artisans and crafters. Non-profits are also on
hand to distribute information about their
organizations and missions. Additionally,
you'll find activities for kids of all ages such as
rock-climbing, carnival games and more.
The over-21 crowd might want to relax in either the Beer and
Wine Patty-O or the Bud and Burgers Beer Garden, which are
both open until 7 p.m. After devouring
a couple of burgers, who wouldn't enjoy
a refreshing beer, glass of wine or canned
cocktail while listening to bands featuring
music of all genres?

The Taste of Hamburg-er Festival isn't the
only event being planned in Hamburg. The
Hamburg Strand Theater will be celebrating
its 101st anniversary! Don't be cruel, stop by
the Strand on Oct. 13 for Elvis impersonator
Jeff Krick Sr. It is sure to be a rockin' good
time. There is no need to chase pavements
either as Andrea Tyler, an Adele tribute
artist, will perform on Dec. 4. Both Jeff
Krick Sr. and Andrea Tyler have previously
performed at the Strand and their return is
highly anticipated.
The Strand will also be showing themed
Classics Night movies celebrating each
decade through the years starting with 1920,
as that is the year the theater came to be
what it is today.
The events and activities held at the
Hamburg Strand are supported by a $15,000
grant received from the Hawley and Myrtle
Quier Fund of Berks County Community
Foundation. Funding from this grant will also
go towards events being planned for 2022,
such as the Hamburg Hoopla music festival and the Artdrenaline
Youth Day Camp. Stay tuned for all of Hamburg's happenings! You
