omic-book superhero Batman relies on his utility belt, a toolkit from which he can
draw weapons to battle Gotham City criminals.
Medical professionals have those kinds of weapons, in a way.

Their medical " utility program " is called MDCalc.

And there's an even more improved version of the go-to resource " utility belt " that has
been enhanced with COVID-19 tools for medical professionals.

Foremost, MDCalc is a collection of different tools for medicine.
It's a single resource for more than 600 different medical calculators, which are " rules
or rubrics designed through large clinical studies, using evidence-based medicine and really
smart statistical methods that are published in the literature and often validated by new
researchers, " said Dr. Joseph Habboushe.
Habboushe is an emergency medicine specialist. He's also co-founder and CEO of a
company, MD Aware LLC, headquartered in New York, which created MDCalc.
Medical school programs train doctors to use the calculators to determine diagnosis
and potential patient treatments.

Answers specific questions
The clinical decision-tool, or calculator, is aimed at answering specific questions for a
doctor, Habboushe said.
" For example, if your 5-year-old falls and hits her head, and you go to an emergency
room, 20 years ago we would get a CAT scan for all those kids, " he said. " But very small
numbers of them would actually have a finding that would need any kind of intervention.
Through some large studies, this group of pediatric emergency doctors designed what we
called the PECARN Rule. "
