Pandemic Heroes
Such As Matt?

S

o much has changed in the past nine months.

But many things have not, like the strength and resiliency we
see around us, and our gratitude for all the frontline workers and
their commitment to end the pandemic. If you know a PCMS member
that we can recognize, please write to us at editor@philamedsoc.org.

There's no time like the present to bestow some honors on those
who are deserving of them.
Meet Matt Genatempo, a Bucks County High School junior.
Genatempo made personal protective equipment (PPE) on seven
3D printers for the Philadelphia County Medical Society. Genatempo
got in touch with PCMS in May, just as the coronavirus pandemic
was intensifying in the city and PPE was in short supply. By early June,
Genatempo created more than 250 face shields and 1,000 ear savers that
were distributed to area frontline physicians and hospitals.
At first, using only one 3D printer, Genatempo began making face
shields and plastic visors to help protect local health-care workers from
the coronavirus. Genatempo's family also started a GoFundMe page
to help support the cost of supplies and to purchase other 3D printers.
They also secured a 50-kilogram filament donation used to make these
PPE items.
PCMS applauds Genatempo and considers him one of the many
heroes who had stepped up during the COVID-19 pandemic to protect
and serve. Thank you, Matt. *
