How has PCMS helped you in your
career?
PCMS and organized medicine in general
have helped me to network with local and
statewide physicians. Kept me informed
about upcoming changes in medical practice, and whether such changes would be
harmful or helpful to our work and to our
patients, and whether such changes are
indeed necessary. PCMS provides me with
a chain of command along which I could
pass ideas or complaints about medical
practice and be assured of a response from
the profession as a whole. PCMS also gives
me a sense of security! Provides guidelines
for good medical practice and offers peer
support in my work even though I practice
alone! My work is mostly outpatient, so
I miss the fellowship, or what is left of it,
walking the halls and clinical floors of the
hospital. Of course, now, in the age of the
hospitalist, many internists and surgeons do
not see each other or even have a chance to
discuss patients or the state of health care
with colleagues. Yes, specialty societies are
a bit more relevant to what I do every day,
but what is going on in the "wide world of
ever-changing health care" is only available
to me at PCMS and PAMED.
