The construction and installation of the lined cofferdam allowed the City of Baltimore to keep operational 49 acres (20 ha) of a 55acre (22-ha) drinking water reservoir, while 6 acres (2 ha) of the reservoir could be dewatered behind the lined cofferdam to facilitate the construction of the underground storage tanks.
