here are numerous types of geosynthetics, including geotextiles, geomembranes, geogrids, geosynthetic clay liners, drainage materials,
geocells and erosion control products. Each has its own applications.
Geotextiles are used for separation, reinforcement, filtration, drainage and protection. Geomembranes are utilized for containment, lining
and capping. Geogrids are exploited for reinforcement, asphalt overlay,
waterproofing, separation and stabilization. Geosynthetic clay liners are
applied for surface impoundment, secondary containment and landfill
lining. Drainage materials are wielded for drainage. Geocells are employed
for improving the structural and functional behavior of soils and aggregate
infill materials. Erosion control products handle erosion protection.
With so many applications in a wide variety of materials, it's a wonder
that these products can fit into a single category called geosynthetics. They
all qualify, though, because they all are in the earth (geo) and are humanmade (synthetics). They also justify three arms of the Industrial Fabrics
Association International in Geosynthetics magazine, the Geosynthetic
Materials Association (GMA) and geosynthetics conferences.

Geosynthetics magazine
Geosynthetics is an international, bimonthly publication for civil engineers,
contractors, geosynthetic companies and government agencies in need of
expert information on geosynthetic engineering solutions. The magazine
offers articles from field professionals showing innovative, exemplary practice. The magazine also produces the Geosynthetics Specifier's Guide. Visit

Geosynthetic Materials Association
GMA serves its member companies, advancing geosynthetics knowledge on
many fronts. The association develops technical standards; partners with
federal agencies; advocates for geosynthetics on local, state and national
levels; and supports educational programming about geosynthetics. To

Geosynthetics Conferences
The geosynthetics world will gather March 8-10, 2020, in Charleston, S.C.,
for the Geosynthetics Conference 2020: CASE STUDIES, featuring plenary
lectures, numerous speakers and much more. Over the years, IFAI's geosynthetics conference has become a world-class gathering place for ideas,
innovation and conversations about geosynthetics. For more information,

From biannual GMA Lobby Day sessions in Washington, D.C., to gatherings of geosynthetics leaders at conferences, to Geosynthetics magazine's
exemplary writing in the lab and in the field, geosynthetics are at the forefront of IFAI's activities.
