he customer wanted more
than 110 feet of teak covers for
this 1988 44-foot Ocean Yacht
that could stay in place even when
the boat was running. He loved the
idea of making them out of the Tan
Sunbrella® so he still had the teak look.
The challenges of this project included
having to fit while the boat was on a
mooring and having only three days to
complete the project. It was completed
using the existing studs in the cockpit
of the boat. Forward of the cockpit,
only two snap studs were added at the
bowsprit thanks to the boat's natural
curve and the 2-inch lip on the rail
edge. This made it possible to leverage
and secure the covers into place using
just the shape of the boat. All cleats are
accessible and reinforced on the inside
as well as the outside where bumper
lines hang. At the end of the three-day
project, the customer headed out on a
10-hour cruise back to San Diego from
Redondo Beach, and everything stayed
in place perfectly. It's exciting to have
found an exceptional alternative to
sandbags and fasteners.
