OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT M is for marvelous Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo., constructed a new athletic field and wanted a custom tension fabric structure to provide spectators with shade and protection from the elements during sporting events. The color and the unique "M" shape of the structure was designed to represent the university's school color and logo. The fabric for the structure was installed in one piece, and the size of the overhead support made it challenging to fabricate and install. The time frame was tight and needed to be completed by the school's homecoming date. The structure measures approximately 65 feet by 26 feet and is installed with 1-inch and 3-inch galvanized cables on 14-inch diameter schedule 80 steel end posts tapered to 8-inch diameter, with base plates and cable connection tangs.
