INDUSTRIAL FINISHING: AUTOMATIC LIQUID PAINT SPRAY GUNS
AUTOMATIC SPRAY GUNS
ON THE SCENE
W
hen we looked at manual spray guns in our last
issue of CFCM, we found that there is a need
for manual spray guns in specific scenarios
that outperforms automatic spray guns in such
instances. Still, it is only a matter of time before substantial
breakthroughs in creating automated spray guns upgrade
tremendously and transcend its predecessors. There is no
telling where the future may lead us in this respect. We reached
out to industry suppliers to view their latest products and
developments to grasp the rapidly growing automatic spray gun
sector.
The AG361 from DeVilbiss is a base model gun with basic
mounting ability however it offers full control of fluid delivery,
independent atomization and fan air, all valving with the
pneumatic gun trigger signal. Shutting the air off within the gun
provides significant compressed air savings over standard bleed
type guns.
" The launch of the AG360 Series automatic spray guns
from DeVilbiss (parent company Carlisle Fluid Technologies)
has been a very successful product for us at ECE Canada Ltd.
The platform launched in 2018/19 for air spray technology
with offerings in Conventional Spray, HVLP and Trans Tech
(LVMP) with the latter being the most popular choice due to it's
superior atomization and highest transfer efficiency traits. " Tim
Beckford, Vice President of Sales at ECE Canada, states.
The AG362 enhancements to this base model incorporate
a quick detachable manifold style gun for higher production
facilities where zero downtime is paramount. The quick detach
feature keeps all air and fluid lines in place and connected to the
manifold while a quick turn of a lever allows removal of the spray
head only. Operators can perform a gun change and get the line
running in seconds. Gun cleaning or maintenance can then be
performed on a bench while users continue to produce product.
In 2021 Carlisle Fluid Technologies added to this family
with the AG363 Air-Assisted Airless and the AG364 Airless
versions branded under the Binks name. Carlisle's innovations
in manufacturing tungsten carbide tips have taken airless spray
appearance to a whole new level. Material savings through
higher efficiency and superior finishes are now achievable with
much lower fluid pressures. Additional savings with compressed
air and reduced wear of pump components makes the transition

even more profitable to the end user.
From Tier 1 Automotive components to gas cap openings on
an Automotive assembly line ECE has numerous installations
of the AG362 Trans Tech. The AG363 Air-Assist Airless is being
well received in the wood industry by providing both material
savings and improved appearances. Carlisle Fluid Technologies
offers conversion kits for all major manufacturers of flat line
machines.
We checked in with Gema Powder Coating to see what new
features they have added to their products in the past two years,
Jeffery Hale, Marketing Director, outlined the introduction of
the all-new Production Information tool, The GemaConnect -
an interactive program that provides users with full visibility
of the current status and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
of their powder coating equipment, and Dynamic Contouring,
technology that incorporate new software algorithms and
advanced design in positioning devices, allowing thinner objects
to be detected with more precision and at faster conveyor speeds.
" We have introduced several new products during the past
All of these products are focused on improving

productivity, efficiency, and finished appearance of the powder
coating materials used on metal and non-metal substrates, " Hale
explains.
GemaConnect: This interactive program is a new digital tool
providing users with full visibility of the current status and
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of their powder coating
equipment, regardless of location or time. GemaConnect is
a web-based tool continually updating and storing powder
coating data for comprehensive monitoring and analysis from
a single source. Designed for all levels of responsibility within
a company - business leaders, managers, production staff, and
maintenance personnel - each user can access their customized
data via the GemaConnect dashboard, allowing them to visualize
and analyze their KPIs. Using this information, users can make
quicker and more informed decisions on improving their powder
coating process performance. In addition to viewing real-time
information on production, maintenance, and operational status
of the plant, GemaConnect users can put customized indicators
and favorites on their screens, allowing them to keep critical
areas in view. The interactive platform also provides historical
information about the performance and utilization of the plant,
as well as relevant process parameters. GemaConnect is suitable
for all companies that want to improve their overall operational
efficiency, maximize resources and reduce operating costs.
Dynamic Contouring: This next generation technology
362L
incorporates new software algorithms, and advanced design
in positioning devices, allowing thinner objects to be detected
with more precision and at faster conveyor speeds. Gema's
Scan & Spray solution is a leading technology that increases the
application range of possible products to coat, while expanding
the opportunity for use by more companies.
To achieve the higher level of performance, Gema has
improved and optimized several aspects of the second generation
of Dynamic Contouring products. This includes:
