investment

hoosing the right equipment for your powder
coating operation is not as simple as sizing a booth
and oven so they are large enough to accommodate
all components that your business finishes.
The functionality of a powder coating booth, the way in
which powder is collected and the design of an oven are just
a few of the many factors that should be considered before
making a capital equipment purchase. Properly examining all
aspects of your powder coating operation can save you time
and money, streamline production and make your workflow
more efficient.
Whether your business is a low- or high-production
operation, these five key considerations for powder
coating equipment have the potential to elevate your shop's
production.
Type of Powder Booth
Filtration is what differentiates the design of batch powder
coating booths. The most efficient design features rows of

cartridge filters that collect powder overspray, then dump the
powder onto the floor of the booth or into a powder collection
mechanism. In another design, powder overspray is trapped
in a wall of filters, typically in a grid pattern.
Production expectations are often the driving factor in
determining what type of batch powder coating booth is best
for a business. Operators should consider how many hours a
day and days a week they anticipate using the booth. Batch
powder booths featuring cartridge filters are well-suited for
manufacturers or job shops with medium to high volume,
whereas batch powder booths designed with roll media and
panel filters are typically good fits for custom outfits with low
volume. While powder booths with cartridge filters are more
expensive up front than powder booths with traditional roll
media, they feature more consistent airflow, considerably
less maintenance and a much cleaner finishing environment
for more overall efficiency. Job shops seeking the most
affordable capital equipment investment should consider the
long-term financial benefits of a powder booth designed with
cartridge filters.
Cartridge-style powder booths from Global Finishing
Solutions (GFS), known as Powder Recovery Booths, feature
an integrated powder collection module with high-efficiency
cartridge filters. In dry climates, cartridge filters can remain
in a batch powder booth for years, as the dry air prevents
powder from clumping in the filters. Some shops with GFS
equipment in Arizona, Utah and Nevada only change their
cartridge filters every two to three years. In humid areas,
