SAMES KREMLIN
Rebrands
As of October 1, SAMES KREMLIN
and iNTEC SAMES KREMLIN will
become sames with a new logo and
values to better meet the technological
and environmental challenges of its
customers, partners and employees.
Moving to this simplified name is also
an acronym to express the company's
philosophy: Simply Applying Most
Efficient Solutions (sames).
Since 1925, this paint and sealant
application solutions provider has been
expanding globally in all industrial
markets. In 2020, the company acquired
iNTEC to strengthen its presence in
the bonding sector. And in 2022, the
company plans to go even further by
asserting its positioning with ambitions
resolutely turned towards innovation and
the preservation of the environment.
The new logo is simplified to
emphasise the synergy of its trades and
talents. The company also points out that
it kept the phosphorus green in the logo
to retain SAMES KREMLIN's heritage.
ABB invests $13M in Canadian Expansion
ABB has announced an investment of US $13 million in its Installation Products
Division Iberville manufacturing facility in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., to
increase production capacity and establish a research & development facility
at its global centre of excellence for cable tray manufacturing. This will support
rising global demand, especially in the data centre segment, and is ABB's second
multimillion-dollar investment in a Canadian site in the last 12 months.
The Iberville facility employs 300 people, including production, engineering and
quality specialists who design and manufacture cable trays for the North American
market and international customers. The integration of new automated equipment,
ABB robotics technology and an advanced design lab, along with the more than
32,500-square-feet of building improvements, is expected to boost total production
capacity of the 102,000-square-foot site by more than 30 per cent. Among the
products manufactured in Iberville are Microlectric meter sockets, Superstrut metal
framing, and Joslyn Hi-Voltage switches assembled for electric utility customers.
" ABB's latest investment is part of a five-year strategy to advance our digital
capabilities and foster continued innovation, " said Matthias Heilmann, president
of ABB Electrification's Installation Products division. " Expanding production,
integrating new technology, and bringing together our product design and
engineering teams further strengthens our ability to deliver smart, safe and
sustainable solutions to Canadian and global customers. "
EPA Approves RadTech Test Method
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved
of the use of ASTM D-7767-11-Standard Test Method to
Measure Volatiles from radiation curable acrylate monomers,
oligomers, and blends and thin coatings made from them-a
test method developed by RadTech members for UV/EB thin
films. The action was part of the approval of the South Coast Air
Quality Management District's (SCAQMD) Graphic Arts rule
(Rule 1130) and marks the first time the EPA has approved a rule
that includes a test method specifically for UV/EB thin films.
RadTech members developed the test method as both federal
and local regulators recognised the inadequacy of standard
EPA Method 24 for UV/EB materials but could not produce a
suitable alternative. Industry was asked to develop a method for
thin films (ASTM D-5403-93 can be used for non-thin films and
was incorporated by reference in Method 24). At the regulators'
behest, RadTech embarked in an effort which involved 25
member companies, to get ASTM approval which ultimately
yielded ASTM D-7767 in 2011.
The EPA approved of the rule as part of the State
Implementation Plan approval process-and their decision
validates the ASTM method and offers additional certainty to
raw material suppliers, formulators and end users who may wish
to employ the method to determine Volatile Organic Compound
(VOC) content in UV/EB thin film operations.
" We are grateful to the EPA, the SCAQMD Board and
especially to our committed RadTech members who dedicated
their time and resources, " says Rita Loof, RadTech director of
regulatory affairs.
