T H E B OAT S H O P - A B Y C Ethanol & Biobutanol BY JEFF WASIL Foreword - Boating Industry Canada is pleased to feature editorial shared with our readers by the American Boat & Yacht Council, ABYC as well as from the National Marine Electronics Association, NMEA, in most issues but this time, we are "blending" two articles on the same topic; one from ABYC and the other from the National Marine Manufacturers Association, NMMA. The topic is ethanol, or actually, a marine industry proposal to use biobutanol in fuel in place of ethanol. Part 1 of this story was written by Jeff Wasil and was supplied to us by the ABYC. Part 2 is comprised of excerpts taken from an NMMA press release sent out this past June. We should watch the developments around biobutanol and be ready to support this change in Canada if we can. All too often, however, after the long winter storage period, we experience issues that can tarnish a great day on the water. Many of you are very familiar with the negative effects of ethanol fuel blends in recreational boats. In fact, fuel related problems account for many of the issues experienced by recreational boaters. It is not at all surprising that the recreational "Enjoy" part yourself. 28 Boating Industry Canada DECEMBER 2015 http://www.abycinc.org http://www.nmea.org
