Canada Metal (Pacific)
Continues US Expansion

with New Virginia Manufacturing Centre
Continued US Expansion Could
Create as Many as 70 New Jobs
Over the Next Three Years.
Delta, BC-based Canada Metal (Pacific)
continues to experience strong growth
on the strength of its OEM and aftermarket anode business - to the point the
company has expanded its operations in
the United States with a new manufacturing plant in Virginia.
The recently opened facility marks
the second phase of Canada Metal's continued expansion into the eastern United
States.
The company, which operates a
40,000 square-foot production and
engineering facility in Delta as well as a
45,000 square-foot manufacturing
plant in Ningbo, China, took its first
steps into the US last summer when the
company opened a 14,300 square-foot
distribution centre in Virginia Beach,
VA, in order to better serve clients
along the Atlantic seaboard. "We started
with the distribution operation, and it
worked out so well that we quickly outgrew the facility, " says Canada Metal
(Pacific) president, John Mitchell. "The
end result of that is that we've now
opened a second, larger facility in
Suffolk, Virginia, where we will begin
casting anodes for commercial clients
in eastern North America."
Mitchell notes that the new Suffolk
facility is expected to begin casting operations this summer.
"CMP conducted a very comprehensive investigation as to where to establish its US operation," notes Jim Stuart,
CMP's vice president of business development. "Virginia Beach came out head
and shoulders above all other locations
due to its highly skilled labour force,
excellent logistics, and, most importantly, having a culture that personifies
our desire to be fully integrated within
the community in which we conduct
our business."
While the original intent of CMP's US
expansion was to provide a closer distribution point for faster delivery to clients
along the east coast, the new facilities
have provided additional benefits at
Canada Metal's home base in Delta.
Shifting inventory warehousing to
Virginia has freed space at the Delta
plant, allowing the company to expand
the engineering operation for its
Octopus autopilots.
Headquartered in Delta, British
Columbia, Canada Metal (Pacific)
brands include Marytr anodes, Rocna
and Vulcan anchors, Titan chains,
Octopus drive systems and Intelisteer
remote steering systems. Along with its
new operations in Virginia, the company
also has a production facility in Italy
through its acquisition of Seaguard Italy.
