By the time this article appears in The Port Hole, boats
will have been launched, plans will start to be made for
summer travel and thoughts of warm winds and smooth
seas will be happily on everyone's minds for the coming
season.
This edition of The Port Hole has many riveting and informative
articles for your enjoyment. Read about Richard
Larivière's exciting journey from Lake Champlain to the
Caribbean, with many adventures along the way, and
many more adventures to be had.
Safety is a top priority for boating with confidence. PFD's
are a key component of being safe while having fun on
the water. The article on Teenagers and PFD's is a great
reminder that the young boater needs to be aware of
boating safety. Be an example to your teens and wear
your PFD out on the water. Show them the new styles
and make it a part of their boating gear. Be the mentor
for the new generation.
A special treat this month is the article on the CPS Foundation,
written by the Chair of the foundation, Past Chief
Commander Joe Gatfield. Joe explains the purpose of the
foundation, and how our squadrons and districts can
donate to this most important organization, in order to
keep CPS-ECP alive for the future.
And of course, as responsible boaters we are committed
to respecting our environment. Leave a pristine footprint
and get rid of your trash responsibly. A welcome reminder
of this is included in this issue.
At time of writing, it is only 5 months until the 2024 National
Conference in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, where
planned activities are well underway. We encourage
all our members to attend the conference. It is a wonderful
chance to visit a beautiful city and enjoy all the
camaraderie of your fellow CPS-ECP members, as well
as participate in the meetings that take place throughout
the week.
