ften referred to as " the sixth
Great Lake, " Georgian Bay is
a freshwater paradise and is a
part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Georgian Bay Islands National Park is the
world's largest freshwater archipelago
typically known as the land of the 30,000
islands. It's no wonder that boaters deem
Georgian Bay to be one of the most beautiful
places in the world to boat.
Georgian Bay offers a unique and
unforgettable boating experience whether
you're a seasoned boater or a fi rst-time
visitor. With access to so much water,
there are endless amounts of special
places to stumble upon. You can expect to
experience bustling waterside towns and
anchorages or the solitude of having an
island all to yourself.
The outdoor experience on Georgian
Bay is limitless. Spectacular hiking trails,
abundant wildlife, and activities like fi shing,
canoeing and pure exploration are just
a few things the bay has to offer. Georgian
Bay is also steeped in history that boaters
can experience through countless historic
sites and museums.
Georgian Bay is a beautiful playground,
but it can also seem infi nite at times. Maple

It's important to be prepared and
knowledgeable when heading out on
a boat. Having the correct resources is
key, especially on Georgian Bay given
its big water, hidden shoals and overall
immensity. Transport Canada's Safe
Boating Guide is a great resource and can
be found at www.tc.gc.ca/boatingsafety.
The Canadian Safe Boating Council also
has several resources that can be found at
www.enjoyboating.ca and www.csbc.ca .
It can be hard to choose where to go
on Georgian Bay. Knowing at all times
where you can access service locations
in case of emergency is important. Here's
