Our trusty steed - a Moorings 4500 named " Wallis " evening during high season the village offers visitors a taste of Carnival. Tonight is Tuesday. It is the best of times. AN A-LIST ISLAND We set out early next morning from Grand Case since today's float plan entails one of the week's longest passages, even though it's a mere fifteen or sixteen nautical miles. Method to our madness: we want to maximize the time we have available for our exploration of Anguilla, an A-list island with a wealth of attractions. The morning's sail proves delightful: broad reach, following seas and a nice wind at fifteen knots true until we round Anguilla's tip and fly close-hauled up to Road Bay. After clearing customs there and picking up a cruising permit, we steer a course for Sandy Island. This oasis is one reason Anguilla's an A-list island but it's hardly the only one. Road Bay Anguilla Anguilla is known as a haunt of the haute monde. Denzel Washington reputedly has a villa here. On another trip, when we dine ashore at Road Bay, our waitress shares the fact that Uma Thurman ate here the night before. They might be on to something. CNN Travel once rated Anguilla's Dune Preserve as the world's best beach bar. Shoal Bay, an expanse of alabaster sand to the east, has more than once been rated best beach in the Caribbean.
