Dock Links w as conceived in the fall of 2016 by Scott Leclerk and Lyndon Greene, a couple of
likem inded friends w ith over 20 years of boating experience throughout the Great lakes and
Trent-Severn W aterw ay.In recent years the pair noticed that people just w eren't out boating
as m uch as they had been in the past,but rather w ere choosing to stay at the dock and treat
their boat m ore like a 'cottage' or 'sum m er hom e'.
Digging deeper, the tw o began talking w ith a w ide array of boaters that seem ed to fall
into this group. One prim ary reason for this grow ing trend w as identified by nearly all those
they spoke w ith; boating had just becom e too expensive. A lot of people w ere choosing to
do only 1 trip per season and aside from that they w ere staying relatively close to their hom e
port, if they chose to leave the dock at all. Scott and Lyndon then spoke w ith m arina operators w ho expressed that having boaters staying at the dock m ost of the season w as having
a detrim ental affect on m arinas. W ith rising hydro costs, less fuel sales and a less parts and
service sales, m arina operators w ere feeling the pinch of the changing boating dynam ic.
To com bat this trend Scott and Lyndon began to develop a program that w ould be
advantageous for boaters and m arinas and so the concept of a m em bership program that
offered discounts to boaters w as developed. The tw o hit the road talking w ith select, high
quality m arinas,restaurants,and other businesses in the m arine industry to research the viability of the Dock Links concept. The support w as overw helm ing w ith all types of businesses
looking to partner w ith Dock Links and offer boaters discounts. H ence Dock Links w as born!
Throughout the sum m er of 2017 the num ber of Dock Links Partner m arinas grew from
9 to 27 and now stretch from Lake Ontario, through the Trent Severn W aterw ay and into
Georgian Bay and Lake H uron. Scott and Lyndon then travelled inland w here partner
m arinas w ere located and m et w ith local business ow ners w ho w ere w illing to offer boaters
a discount.Restaurants,spas and other service providers jum ped on board to offer potential
Dock Links m em bers discounts to visit their businesses.

By N ovem ber 2017 Dock Links w as w ell established w ith over 950 m em bers. The Dock
Links m em bership card and its associated Dock Links app grants m em bers access to over 1700
discounts across Canada and that num ber continues to grow .
The Dock Links team is extrem ely excited for the 2018 season, and have even added a
full tim e sales m anager to continue to provide new avenues and opportunities for its
m em bers. Further, Scott and Lyndon continue to evolve the opportunities for potential
discounts and even have plans to take the success of Dock Links national.
Dock Links has certainly seen substantial success in its first year and has the support of
the m arine service industry and boaters alike. Dock Links has already begun to achieve the
goal that started it all for Scott and Lyndon; to get boaters m oving again. W ith their drive,
and the support of the boating com m unity Dock Links w ill continue to grow and provide a
w elcom e avenue to help get boaters off the dock.
