Echo Spring 2023 - 35
That summer, Robin was finishing her doctorate at the
same time her husband, David, was stepping down
from his position as a college dean. As the rest of
the world was asking " What's next?, " the Bronkemas
wondered if it was time for them to forge a new path
as well. Robin remembers she and David praying, " Lord,
give us something new or take us where you want us
to go. "
" I think we were ready for a new challenge, " she says.
" How God worked to bring me to LBC was pretty
amazing. "
Along the course of her career in education, Robin
discovered she had a heart for college-age students-
one reason she was thrilled at the chance to bring her
experiences to LBC | Capital in the summer of 2021.
Two years later, she appreciates that her students, who
are both college-aged and adult learners at advanced
phases of their education, are varied in their faith walk.
" Some are very mature in their faith and living it out, "
she says. " Others know they love the Lord and are trying
to figure out what their service to Him throughout their
life will look like. "
Involved in missions at a former church,
Robin loved seeing college students
become immersed in other cultures
and grow from those experiences.
" I would be so moved by what God
was doing in the lives of college
students because they were just
figuring out who they were, " she says. " They were really
learning to own their faith. "
A mom to three young adults as well, " I'm so thankful
for the people God has put in my kids' lives to bring
them along in their faith. "
Hired to lead the growing number of graduate
programs within LBC | Capital's Education Department,
which include online master's degrees in Curriculum
& Instruction, Early Childhood Education, English as
a Second Language, Health & Physical Education and
Special Education as well as a Doctor of Education in
Educational Leadership (see pages 26-27), Robin's online
teaching experience is again relevant.
The faith-education relationship that was forged at
Harvard along with her extensive studies in psychology
and development help Robin guide LBC | Capital
students through educational theories and early
childhood learning experiences as they collaborate in
the virtual learning landscape.
" In terms of how I view the students too, there's an
element of trying to understand where they are coming
from, " she says.
Today, Robin can look back to where she came from
as well. She's thankful that God showed her at an early
age where her passions would lie, even as she played
teacher at a makeshift desk and chalkboard.
" The things that move you are very much the callings
that God has put on your life. "
" The things
that move
you are very
much the
callings that
God has put
on your life. "
