By Ben James ('26) and Hunter Gerber ('21 & '23)
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
The Chargers were able to clinch their spot in the United East playoffs with
a 2-3 record in the conference and finished 3-11 overall. Despite some tough
matches, one of the more exciting games came on the road against La
Roche on April 5. Katelynn Perrotta ('24) had an outstanding performance
to help the team get the win with seven goals and three assists. Lindsey
Weaver ('25) added two goals and two assists of her own on the way to a
16-4 victory with huge playoff implications before being defeated in the first
round. Perrotta earned All-Conference First Team honors following her 35goal
and nine-assist season, while defender Alexis Garrett ('24) was named
to the Second Team.
SOFTBALL
The 2023 season may not have finished how the softball team wanted, but
the Chargers saw plenty of high notes and personal accolades. The team
finished with a 10-26 record (5-19 against conference opponents) and
received four all-conference bids from the United East, as Phoebe Clemens
('24) and Hannah Lieb ('23) picked up All-Conference First Team honors,
with Chloe King ('23) and Alyssa Hamilton ('24) on Second Team. It was
a stellar year for Clemens, who put up 54 hits and 39 RBIs, both of which
were single-season program records. Clemens also surpassed 100 career
hits this year and finished the season with a total of 127. From the mound,
Hamilton had an impressive season as well, with 42 strikeouts on the year
along with 41 hits.
TRACK & FIELD
LBC's men's and women's track & field program had an excellent indoor
and outdoor season, with several school records and national qualifications.
The season was highlighted by the performances of Leah Bergey ('24) and
Mitchell Gray ('24). At the National Christian College Athletic Association
(NCCAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships, Bergey finished second
overall in the pentathlon and earned All-American honors, while Gray
finished fifth in the 5000-meter run.
Kara Huber ('23) also finished fifth overall in the pole vault at 2.97-meters.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Huber, Elizabeth Lieb ('24),
Kendal Ream ('23) and Janae Bergey ('26) placed sixth overall with a
time of 4:22.77. The most impressive performance of the season was Leah
Bergey's 60-meter hurdles, in which she posted a monster time of 8.85
seconds, not only winning the event but placing her in the top ten all-time
in the NCCAA and breaking the Doden Field House record at Cedarville
University.
BASEBALL
LBC's 2023 baseball season was one of resilience, as the Chargers got off
to a rough start losing 14 of their first 17 games. Fast-forward to May, and
the Chargers closed out their regular season with a 16-23 overall record
(12-9 in the conference) to clinch the final spot in the United East
Championships on May 11. Blake Greenly ('23) finished the regular season
batting .420 with 60 hits, half of those being for extra bases, including 11
home runs and 42 RBIs. Dylan Witkowski ('26) had a phenomenal rookie
season as well, batting .383 with 57 hits and 33 RBIs. Brian Coburn ('24)
had a great showing from both the plate and the mound, recording 41 hits
and 27 RBIs while going 5-2 from the mound with 37 strikeouts and a 2.72
earned run average.
