Echo Winter 2025 - 23

The men's and women's basketball teams participated
in Hope Inspire Love's 2024 Freedom Walk in October.
Student-athletes and coaches took over 5,500 steps with
500-plus participants to help raise awareness about human
trafficking and sexual exploitation, as well as raise funds
for a trauma-informed mentorship program for teens and
young adult women trafficking survivors. Also part of this
year's Freedom Walk was a simulation designed by LBC
social work students who are now alumni. " A Walk in Their
Shoes: A Human Trafficking Simulation " was created in
2020-21 to educate and heighten an understanding toward
those trapped in both labor and sex trafficking.
Ten LBC students who are part of Student Evangelistic
Fellowship helped a local single refugee mother with an
8-month-old baby by cleaning her apartment, organizing,
baby proofing and making the space feel more like home.
In late October, the team worked hard to sweep, mop,
wash, scrub and decorate the apartment, filling the cabinets
with essentials for the home and the baby. Meanwhile,
two LBC students in the group took the woman to buy
new clothes while another provided childcare. When the
woman walked into her apartment after the team was
finished, she excitedly said, " When I had to leave my home
country, I prayed that God would send me family. That is
what you all have been to me. "
