fter coming to the United States in
high school through American Homelife
International, Tomoyoshi Yamanaka ('96)
thought he had his life and career planned out.
But as he would soon come to discover, God
had even better plans for him.
" I planned my life upon my career, " Yamanaka
explained. After graduating from high school,
he began pursuing a degree in photography at
Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC),
envisioning to become a photojournalist.
While at HACC, Yamanaka attended Lancaster
Christian and Missionary Alliance Church,
and it was there that his friend, Ruth Powers,
introduced him to the Evangelism Explosion
ministry.
Yamanaka said. " It was a very effective
witnessing training experience but
subsequently served me to come to a full
assurance of my salvation in Christ. " With
this realization, Yamanaka began to seriously
consider changing his plans to God's plans.
" Ruth was one of the first people at church
to notice I was born again, " Yamanaka shared.
She challenged Yamanaka to consider studying
at LBC, but he impatiently thought it would
take too much time and even questioned the
meaning of a Bible college education. And he
wanted to start his mission work as soon as
possible.
" I became radical, ready to share the gospel
with everyone! " Yamanaka said. " Because of
the drastic global changes at that time, my
heart was consumed to deliver the gospel to
communist countries. "
